Teens who Ate Five or More Servings of Fruits and Vegetables: 9th, 11th Graders

This indicator shows students who ate five or more servings per day of fruits and vegetables during the past seven days.

Why is this important?

It is essential to eat a fresh, healthy and balanced diet in order to maintain a healthy weight and prevent chronic disease, especially as a young adult is maturing physically and mentally. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) recommends making healthy daily food choices that include fruits and vegetables, although the recommended daily amounts depend on age, sex, and level of physical activity. Despite the benefits, many young people still do not eat recommended levels of fruits and vegetables.
