Mothers who Were a Healthy Weight Before Pregnancy

This indicator shows the percentage of women who gave birth who were a healthy weight before becoming pregnant, according to their Body Mass Index (BMI). The BMI is calculated by taking a person's weight and dividing it by their height squared in metric units (BMI = Weight (Kg)/[Height (m) ^ 2]). A BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 si considered healthy. 

Why is this important?

Overweight and obesity increases the risk of many diseases and health conditions for all adults. Before and during pregnancy, maternal overweight and obesity can lead to many complications for both the mother and the infant. Losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight before becoming pregnant may help to prevent and control these complications.
